Abstract:

This session presents work-in-progress from CCAT's Digital Disability research group, led by Professor Katie Ellis and involving a team of three postdoctoral and three HDR researchers. Drawing on the NSW Inclusive Playgrounds Framework, 'Can I get there? Can I play? Can I stay?', the team has adapted these three questions into a qualitative research methodology for studying digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities.

The session will present the team's developing GPS methodology, including its theoretical grounding in Critical Disability Studies and universal design, its application as an organising heuristic, a coding schema, and a framework for analysis.

Each presenter addresses a different application of the methodology using early evidence of its utility across datasets from the Disability Royal Commission, Vision Australia, People with Disability Australia, and the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations, collected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
