Grounded in Critical Disability Studies and Health Humanities, I am passionate about building social capital and developing more inclusive and responsive approaches to disability and chronic illness research and care. My work foregrounds community knowledge and expertise, always centring the voices and experiences of people with lived experience of the topic being discussed.
My recently completed PhD research, "Doing, Being and Knowing Intracranial Hypertension: Exploring Facets of IH through Experiential Expertise" foregrounds the collective expertise of people living with this rare chronic illness-disability, with the aim is to radically transform how uncommon chronic illness is understood, researched, and managed. As someone who lives with Intracranial Hypertension myself, I bring my own experiential experience , alongside my academic and professional background in disability and mental health community support, to my work.
Beyond my focus on Intracranial Hypertension, my research interests span broader questions of inclusion, access, and social capital within disability and chronic illness communities. I aim to provide accessible scholarship, meaningully engaging the community my reseach discusses in the research process and outcomes, and actively share my work through presentations, publications, and other forms of community engagement.
I currently work as a Research Associate in the Centre for Culture and Technology at Curtin University and at Edith Cowan University's Centre for Precision Health.
